Machine Learning is a subset of Artificial Intelligence (a field of Computer Science), in which an algorithm (or series of it) learn from input data.
In order to better understand what machine learning is, you have to have clear in your mind what is to learn. To learn, accordingly to the Merriem Websters dictionary, is: “to gain knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing something”.
When you are learning something, texts, songs, images… are presented to you, so you learn from the patterns found on it.
Machine Learning happens, exactly in the same way, you expose the code and the algorithm(s) to data, like texts, songs, images… and then the “machine” learns by processing that data.
By process we mean applying a set of mathematical and statistical algorithms in order to make inferences and predictions. This learning algorithm must be capable of fixing itself, by learning continuosly.
